Updated: Jan 6

NOW Foods Supplements, NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine) 1,000 mg, Free Radical Protection*, 120 Tablets

• N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) is a natural antioxidant that helps protect

the brain, heart, and other organs from oxidative damage caused by

stress and aging. It offers several mental and physical health benefits.

Recommended dose is 2,000 mg per day all at once or in divided

doses.

Mental Health Benefits:

• Compulsive Disorders: NAC helps with trichotillomania (hair-

pulling), compulsive skin picking, self-cutting, and may alleviate

symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

• Depression: Particularly beneficial for chronic, low-grade

depression. Its antidepressant effects build gradually over 6 months,

but stopping NAC can reverse the benefits within a week.

• Addictions: Useful for managing marijuana, alcohol, nicotine use.

• Memory: Potential benefits for age-related cognitive decline and

Alzheimer’s disease, though studies are limited.

Physical Health Benefits:

• Protects against oxidative damage linked to aging, cancer, and heart

disease.

• Supports liver, lung, and kidney health.
